Here are a few ways you can save a grand a year.
1. Switch your coffee shop
Making coffee at home saves the most money. If you enjoy the experience of visiting a coffee shop as much as coffee itself, substituting a $5 cup for a $2 cup of coffee seven days a week, you’ll save $1,092 a year.
2. Put $3 a day in the bank
Saving $3 a day, 365 days a year, will leave you with $1,095 in the bank. Most people won’t actually set three physical dollars aside each day, but breaking down a large goal into smaller pieces can make it more manageable.
3. Take in a roommate
If you have a home with an extra bedroom put that space to work by taking in a roommate. The rate for shared living in a house, condo, or apartment will vary depending upon where you live, but the money earned will likely be well in excess of $1,000. Just be sure to do a background check and call some references.
4. Cut the cord with cable
Most of us already use services like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube TV. Consider canceling your cable service and start streaming your content exclusively. The average cable bill came in at $99 per month in 2016. Cutting the cord will save most people about $1,200 a year.
