Your Career Starts Behind the Counter
Most of our managers started exactly where you would, on the floor helping customers. That is not a nice story we tell candidates, it is how a company with 90+ locations actually staffs itself. When a Store Manager job opens up, the first place we look is the people already crushing it.
The Store Path
Loan Processor Where it starts, and a bigger job than the title lets on. You dive into loan applications, verify the details, apply our underwriting guidelines and fund approved loans. You break down the contract so customers actually understand what they are signing. You take payments, spot the folks who qualify for a credit limit increase, call current customers about credit they have available and work past-due accounts toward real solutions. You balance the drawer, open and close with your own trusty key and jump in at another location when they need you.
To get in the door: high school diploma or GED, about a year of customer service experience, comfort with computers, reliable transportation and a clean background check. Bilingual English and Spanish is a big plus in most of our markets. Cash handling, lending, or collections experience? Even better, though plenty of great processors showed up without it.
Manager in Training The bridge between the counter and running your own store. If you have shown you can handle more, this is where you learn the manager side of the business before anyone hands you the keys.
Store Manager The store is yours. Staffing and schedules, hitting your numbers, keeping the store clean on compliance and handling the customer situations nobody else can crack. You are also the face of DLC in your town and that part is the job, not a bonus assignment.
Regional Manager Now you own a group of stores across an area. Less time at a counter, more time building managers, covering locations that are short-handed and spotting the store that is drifting before the numbers say so. Store Managers escalate to you, and the calls that sit above a single store land on your desk.
Executive Operations Manager Multi-region ownership, operational strategy and developing the Regional Managers under you.
What Changes as You Move Up
Four things shift.
Scope. One store, then several, then a whole region. Every step along the way is designed to deepen your Dollar Loan Center career path and broaden your horizons.
Authority. More room to make decisions on exceptions, spending, and staffing, with greater discretion on important matters that impact the business.
What gets measured. Your own work early on. Later, your store’s results, then your region’s results.
How you spend your day. The higher up the management ladder you go, the less of the day-to-day processing work is done by you. As you grow from Store Manager in Training to Store Manager to Regional Manager, each step will develop your management, delegation and supervision skills.
How to Put Your Name In
- Tell your manager. Nobody can plan around an ambition they have never heard about. Ask for a development conversation, and use your performance review to say out loud where you want to go.
- Watch the postings. Openings go up on the careers portal, internal ones included.
- Apply. Applications run through the careers portal.
- Bring proof. Your numbers, the situations you handled well, the shifts you covered, the process you fixed. Specifics beat enthusiasm every time.
- Not selected? Ask why. Find out what to work on and what a stronger application looks like. Then go work on it.
