Millions of U.S. Families Lack Bank Accounts

Written by Dollar Loan Center. Posted in DLC, News

The amount of individuals who do not have bank accounts is rising, as numerous households use other ways of obtaining cash — like prepaid cards, cash advance loans, pawnshops and check-cashing services.

Almost 10 million, are lacking a bank account, as outlined by study results published Wednesday via the FDIC. That’s up from 7.7%, or about 9 million households, in 2009.

Bankrate.com, stated that checking accounts can be expensive for many consumers — particularly those living paycheck-to-paycheck who can’t fulfill minimum account balance conditions and get struck with service fees or those people who are continual overdrafters.

Along with the one out of twelve Americans who do not have an account with a bank, there exists a group of people called the underbanked. They are individuals who have banking accounts but who still use other ways of obtaining money — possibly since it is quicker to utilize an alternative or simply because they think banks can come with higher fees. About one out of every five households is recognized as underbanked, which represents 20.1%, or 24 million, U.S. households.

Overall, more than one in four U.S. homes, or 28.3%, are already unbanked or underbanked.

Dollar Loan Center Tells Competitors To “Plank Off”

Written by Dollar Loan Center. Posted in DLC, Entertainment, News

Dollar Loan Center is telling its competitors to “Plank Off” in a new social media contest that begins today and ends November 1st. During that time, anyone over the age of 18 who likes the company on Facebook can submit a photo of themselves planking in front of a competitor’s store for the opportunity to win $100.

Planking is a popular online game in which participants photograph themselves lying face-down with their arms to their sides in unusual places. The movement began gaining its recent popularity with a Facebook group that now has nearly 800,000 followers. Players have photographed themselves on the ground, tables, chairs, mailboxes, cars and other unusual places. The game has even hit the celebrity circuit, with Chef Gordon Ramsey planking on a jet airplane and boat. Earlier this year, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner famously photographed himself planking on his dining room table.

“It’s a pretty simple concept and it’s all about having a little fun with our customers and competitors. We think there will be some pretty hilarious photos.” said Dollar Loan Center CEO Charles Brennan. “If you want to enter the “Plank Off” contest, just “like” Dollar Loan Center on Facebook and upload your photo. We will choose winners each week of the contest and if you don’t win one week you can resubmit your photo for the following week’s prizes.”

Participants in the game must agree to Dollar Loan Center’s terms for the contest, which are posted on the company’s Facebook page.

Planking is also known as “the lying down game” and players must be rigid, like a wooden plank, with their faces down and arms to their sides. Photographs are posted online. The game originated in England and has become a global phenomenon. It has also spawned similar crazes including ‘Owling’ and ‘Teapotting,’ in which participants arrange their bodies to look like owls and teapots.

Dollar Loan Center is known as one of the most charitable organizations in its industry. The company is also currently donating $100 to Opportunity Village for every touchdown made by the Oakland Raiders during the regular season. Last year the football team scored 44 touchdowns during its regular season play and this year has already scored 18 touchdowns.

In addition to his business enterprises, Brennan is one of Nevada’s most recognized philanthropists, giving thousands to local charities every year. His giving in Las Vegas has included the Henderson Little League, which was able to resume operations for the 2011 season with a $10,000 donation from Brennan. He sponsors several campaigns every year for Opportunity Village that give the organization more than $15,000 and supports food and donation drives to benefit the community.

Dollar Loan Center is a premier provider of signature loans in 49 locations throughout Nevada, South Dakota and Utah. The company and its employees give to dozens of organizations in Nevada. In 2007, Entrepreneur Magazine listed the company among its “Hot 500” Fastest Growing Businesses and Entrepreneurs.”
